Chiropractic Care Can Help Effectively Eliminate Hip Pain

By Strong M Peth

Suffering from hip pain can be very disruptive to a person's life. Although it varies from mild to severe, it can limit one's movements and activities and interfere with sleep. Normally there is a condition present that causes this type of discomfort, which if healed, should put an end to it. Patients undergoing therapy from a chiropractor can experience safe, natural healing and relief of pain in the hips which does not require taking medications.

The large hip joint is located where the femur connects to the pelvis and is subject to various stresses which can lead to discomfort. There may be an acute injury or condition present which causes inflammation, cartilage may have worn out, or the pain may also be referred from another part of the body. Chiropractors always attempt to pinpoint the cause of pain before addressing the symptoms alone.

Another common condition which may lead to discomfort in the hips is misalignment of the sacroiliac joints, which are located just above the tailbone and flank either side of it. These joints are particularly susceptible to stress from certain conditions as pregnancy and childbirth which can cause expansion and misalignment of the bones in this area.

The chiropractor will examine the patient physically and obtain a detailed medical history from him or her to help determine the nature of the pain. Sometimes x-rays or other diagnostics may be necessary to help in the diagnosis. When the source of the pain is apparent, the practitioner will first aim to relieve the swelling, and then to restore mobility to the affected joint, through a personal therapy plan.

Usually the most effective approach involves a combination of therapeutic techniques and possibly some lifestyle changes to lessen the chance of a recurrence. These healthcare professionals do not prescribe medications or recommend surgery as traditional doctors do, in fact these methods are believed to ignore the root cause of the pain and prolong healing as they merely address the symptoms. Timely treatment can help prevent long-term damage to the affected joints.

When the soreness is caused by misalignment of the sacroiliac joints or elsewhere, the chiropractor will most likely apply some adjustments to the affected joint to restore normal alignment. The practitioner may also use massage or apply ice to alleviate swelling and encourage healing. The patient may be instructed how to perform a set of passive range of motion or stretching exercises which are designed to restore mobility and can be done easily at home.

The patient may also be given a nutritional supplement by the chiropractor that can promote healing. Fish oil capsules are particularly helpful in this situation, as they are an excellent anti-inflammatory agent and help promote healthy nerve tissues.

The goal in planning therapy for the patient with hip pain is to encourage moderate movement but not so much that it increases the soreness. With the right combination of physiotherapy, exercise, and nutritional support, most patients will notice a gradual improvement over a short although this may take longer in more severe cases.
