General Information About Alternative Healing Modalities

By Dawn Williams

Modern science has led to the emergence of more effective techniques that are used in the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases. However, these modern treatment techniques are faced with numerous shortcomings. Moreover, the rising cost of medical care makes it unaffordable for many individuals. For this reason, many individuals rely on alternative healing modalities to treat a number of health problems. These practices do not involve the use of surgical procedures, medications or chemicals. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this subject and research is still underway to discover the benefits of this treatment approach.

It consists of a wide range of therapies, products, health care practices, diagnoses and treatments. It is used together with conventional medical treatment. They include biological based approaches, alternative medical systems, mind body therapies, joint and muscle manipulation and energy therapies. Regardless of the treatment selected, it is important to ensure that it is safe, noninvasive and has few or no side effects.

These modalities are divided into various groups. This classification is based on the source of healing effects. In cases, these modalities overlap with each other in the course of treatment. The five main categories include divine healing, spiritual, magnetic, energy or vibrational, mental or psychic healing. These can be further split into smaller groups.

Energy therapies influence energy fields or biofields that medical practitioners believe are found in different regions and have the ability to penetrate the body. They involve the use of electric fields, magnets, and crystals. Body-based therapies include chiropractic, massage and osteopathy which use physical manipulation and movement of muscles and joints.

Mind body therapies are based on the fact that the mind can influence the symptoms and the functions of various parts of the body. Examples include guided imagery, spirituality, yoga, relaxation, meditation, hypnotherapy among others. They focus on improving the health of the entire body. This is because some of these therapies involve the mind, body and soul. The mind is used to influence other areas of the body.

The biological approach to this technique involves the use of herbal medicines, special diets and large doses of vitamins. The techniques under this category use substances that are derived from nature. These include supplements, herbs, megavitamin, minerals and foods. The herbal remedies vary from one place to another. In some areas, people use non-herbal toxic substances obtained from non-biological elements. There are a number of non-vitamin elements that are used. These include fish oil, omega-3 fatty acids and glucosamine.

Most of these treatments are preventive in nature. They help to boost the immunity of the body, increase vitality and eliminate limiting beliefs and unhealthy habits that lead to disease and illness. It is a fulfilling experience to get rid of hidden obstacles that prevent individuals from enjoying the benefits of good health. It is important to gather adequate information about the treatment process before making the decision to participate in any program.

There are many benefits that are provided by alternative healing modalities. Experts in this approach encourage patients to adopt a life style that is beneficial to their health. They are advised to avoid habits such as smoking, drugs and alcohol that are likely to interfere with their wellbeing. These habits are destructive and interfere with various functions in the body. The use of this approach helps to minimize the cost of health care by using less costly measures. Individuals are able to avoid antibiotics which are harmful to the immune system.
